Ground nutmeg

[Spices]
  • Ground nutmeg

Short description

Nutmeg spice is obtained from the fruit of a tree which mainly grows in Indonesia, and, to a lesser extent, in the Carribean and Sri Lanka. In fact, two spices can be obtained from this fruit: nutmeg itself, which is of a light brown colour and is oval in shape, while the skin of this fruit is red and is called mace, which is also used as a condiment. Nutmeg can be used directly, if it is ground, or can be grated at the time of use with a small grater that has been designed specifically for this spice. It is used in bechamel sauce, savory creams and purees and is an ingredient in many spice blends, as it is one of the most used and best known spices. Our customers at Valencia's Central Market usually buy it for mashed potatoes, or in order to make traditional Valencian “Christmas meatballs”.
